Exercise Physiology
Clinically prescribed exercise to manage chronic conditions, rebuild strength after injury, and improve your overall health and quality of life. Our accredited exercise physiologists design programs backed by evidence and tailored to you.
What Is Exercise Physiology?
Exercise as Medicine
Exercise physiology is a university-qualified allied health profession that uses evidence-based exercise interventions to prevent, manage and treat chronic disease and injury. Unlike a personal trainer, an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) is trained to work with complex medical conditions and can provide services under Medicare, DVA and NDIS.
Conditions We Help With:
- Injury rehabilitation
- Chronic pain management
- Cardiovascular and metabolic conditions
- Strength and mobility improvement
- Post-surgical recovery

Our Exercise Physiology Services
Falls Prevention Programs
Falls are one of the leading causes of hospitalisation in older Australians. Our targeted programs focus on improving balance, coordination, lower-limb strength and confidence — reducing your risk of falls and helping you stay active and independent.
Group Exercise Classes
Small, supervised classes designed for rehabilitation and chronic condition management. Group sessions provide the benefits of social connection alongside clinically guided exercise in a supportive environment.
Injury Rehabilitation
Progressive exercise programs designed to rebuild strength, restore range of motion and return you to full function after injury. We work closely with your physiotherapist to ensure your rehabilitation is coordinated and effective.
Strength and Conditioning
Structured training programs to build functional strength, improve endurance and enhance overall physical capacity. Ideal for people recovering from injury, managing chronic conditions, or simply wanting to get stronger under clinical guidance.
Chronic Disease Management
Exercise is one of the most powerful tools for managing chronic conditions like type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, arthritis and COPD. We design safe, effective programs that improve symptoms, reduce medication dependence and enhance quality of life.
Weight Management
Sustainable, personalised exercise plans designed to support healthy weight management. We focus on building habits that last, improving metabolic health, and creating programs that fit realistically into your lifestyle.

Common Questions
Exercise Physiology FAQs
What’s the difference between an exercise physiologist and a personal trainer?
An Accredited Exercise Physiologist holds a university degree and is trained to work with people who have chronic conditions, injuries or disabilities. They can provide services under Medicare, DVA and NDIS. Personal trainers are not qualified to manage clinical conditions.
How is exercise physiology different from physiotherapy?
Physiotherapists focus on diagnosing and treating injury through hands-on therapy and movement retraining. Exercise physiologists specialise in using structured exercise programs to manage chronic disease, improve fitness, and support long-term health outcomes. At Nexus, the two disciplines work together.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed to book privately. For Medicare-funded sessions, you’ll need a CDM plan from your GP. DVA clients require a GP referral. NDIS participants can access our services through their plan.
Do I need to be fit to start?
Not at all. We meet you where you are. Whether you’ve never exercised before or you’re returning after a long break, we design programs that are safe, achievable, and progressively challenging.
